POP Evaluation

Press operators need well-rounded knowledge and skills to perform their job in an efficient and professional way. Just knowing how to push buttons on an offset press is not sufficient. Furthermore, the operating life or state of the machine is also dependent on the proper operational handling of the press operator. Process knowledge and the ability to analyze and solve problems are needed nowadays to be a "professional" press operator. Asian Printmedia Consultancy Group now offers a program to test the knowledge and abilities of a press operator through the Press Operator Proficiency (POP) Evaluation. We developed this assesment program to determine if operators have the required skills and knowledge. It consists of a two-part evaluation:

1. A theoretical evaluation to assess the knowledge of operators on the most important items of the offset process;

2. A practice-related evaluation with the use of an offset press simulator to assess the capability of operators to analyze and solve problems that may occur during their daily job. This unique combination of theoretical and practical assessment will help determine which aspects of the operators are in need of more training and understanding, thus subsequently become "A-class" operators in the company. The assessment will take place in our own training center under the supervision of a professional trainer. After the assessment, the concerned management (i.e. human resources department, plant managers, owners) will receive a written report on the assessment indicating the strong and weak points of the press operators.
